   Surstromming is eaten in the northern part of Sweden together with   
   almond potatoes. It smells like hell and i do not think it is even   
   allowed to eat it indoors in apartment buildings. The japanese have   
   now discovered it and almost everything is exported to Japan. So i   
   guess the people from Laponia will one day invade Japan asking to have   
   their heritage back.
