   apple trees tend to have longer lives than fungi mycelium. and   
   using an extreme example if you have rather dirty hands and   
   happen to touch the mycelium while removing the shroom then it   
   is possible to harm the parent. it does not hurt to flood the   
   area with spores while you are there in hopes of creating a new   
   lifecylce.
