   you can see the basic iodine reaction (amyloid, dextrenoid) with an iodine   
   tincture   
   if you have a good spore deposit. Put a drop of water as well to make sure   
   you   
   see a good difference, not just something that fools the eye.   
      
   You can take spores from any ascomyscete by laying it down. I rarely see a   
   good   
   spore deposit to see color and even that is not particularly useful.   
      
   90% of these checks make more sense if one can inspect the results   
   microscopically.
