From: riburr@shentel.net              The season is pretty much over in Virginia. We've had several nights of       freezing weather. The fallen leaves completely obscure any mushrooms       that might be coming up from the ground.              This is a good time to hike around in the woods, as long as you are       aware of and make yourself seen by hunters. No venomous snakes or       chiggers to annoy you. The dropped foliage really opens up the woods.       This is a good time to scout for promising places to forage next year.              I found these growing on a very decayed log in a marshy part of the       forest. The orientation is correct, they were growing straight out the       side of the log. A striking character are the "whiskers," reminiscent       of a 5-o'clock-shadow, on the cap; See:       http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=2049181336&size=l              There were some beautiful yellow Sulfur Tufts growing on the same log,       but I didn't bother to get their picture.                     --       I can tell your future just look what's in your hand...              - Robert Hunter              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
