   I'm in the mountains of Virginia, central Appalachians.  We're just   
   north of an area of "exceptional" drought; the highest category of   
   drought, beyond "extreme."  Locally we're not so bad, falling squarely   
   into the category of "abnormally dry."  See:

   We've had short periods of rain followed by extended dry periods.  This   
   has been the worst year for mushrooms I've experienced, by far.  Good
