   Hickory does grow in the UK but probably not in the   
   wild. For example Wakehurst Place in Sussex (run by   
   Kew Gardens) has a few specimens, but the authorities   
   will come down on you with a ton of home grown   
   compost if they catch you interfering with any plants.   
   They're not too keen on mushroom gatherers either,   
   although there are quite a lot of interesting ones.   
   I don't know which species of hickory are featured.
