   With all the news about contaminated cantaloupes, I felt the urge to   
   look up Listeria and mushrooms.  Apparently, Listeria is a pathogenic   
   bacteria found in soil.  It can cause serious illness and death in   
   humans.  There have been recalls of cultivated mushrooms in the past due   
   to possible bacterial contamination.  The bacteria can grow in low   
   temperatures, as found in the refrigerator.  Cooking kills the bacteria.
