   Wild grapevine?

Just smoked some steelhead trout we got from Costco. Used wild
grapevine (actually a length of dead and aged vine), fresh dried ash
wood, and a little leftover aged alder wood. Flavor was mild, not
nearly as strong as hickory. No hint of bitterness at all. Did detect
a tanginess, but don't know if this was the grapevine or ash wood. The
wife said it was the best batch yet, and fish is not her favorite. Will
buy some fresh mushrooms from the grocers soon, and try some kind of
   smoking on 'em.

Just thought of some other things in the yard I can try for smoke; wild
blueberry (huckleberry) twigs, wild raspberry and blackberry canes. A
whole world of possibilities has opened up.

Am very excited about giving morels a mild smoking....
