   Smoking the boletes *before* drying would be the way to do it.  Items to   
   be smoked are usually brushed with oil/olive oil to help absorb smoke   
   flavor.  No oil should be used on mushrooms that will subsequently be   
   dried.  Will definitely give it a try as the season progresses.  This   
   smoking thing has added a whole new niche to my mushroom menu.   
      
   Ramps... Still haven't found/tried 'em.  Imagine they'd be good   
   smoked....  Maybe throw 'em into a fresh mushroom soup - thinking French   
   fresh ramp and mushroom soup w/your gouda cheese melted on top.  Dreamy,   
   yet very, very possible.  Good living at its tasty finest.
