   It's more like I had no idea chemicals were so easy to get in the past. I   
   suppose some fun could be had making reagents from what *is* available for   
   those who wish to persue the hobby these days. If they ban caustic soda   
   drain cleaner, well electrolyse some common salt solution (also could make   
   HCl). If they ban salt then boil down some seawater. I'm pretty sure that   
   crude ferrous sulphate could be made from iron pyrites without too much   
   hassle (other than finding the fool's gold).
