You complain because it does exactly what its       designed to do. It exists to create new profiles, delete old ones,       rename existing ones, and to allow you to choose in which profile to       open the program.              Anything else you mention is designed to be adjusted in the UI of       Netscape, opened in the profile, not in Profile Manger.              > It totally destroys what ever customizing you had done on the web       > page, even if you had done nothing. You get Netscape out of the box, as it were. If you want       to get your old settings back, use Profile Manager to open in the       original profile. Then customize View settings to get rid of unwanted       toolbars and the sidebar if you don't like it. The next time you open       in that profile, those settings will be remembered. Create a new       profile, and you get the default settings again.       >       > If you un-install and then re-install, do not expect anything better       > than before, it will be a worse set-up and newsgroups will be totally       > gone. An uninstall/reinstall does not touch the       profile. The new installation looks for an existing profile, and, if ti       finds it, uses it. Again, you seem to have created a new profile and       you don't like it. Well, either customize it to your liking in the UI,       or go back to the old profile.       >       > To get any sanity, one must do a complete un-install and leave nothing       > behind (well, some stays anyway).       > This allows the re-install to get the bookmarks and one e-mail       > correct. One of the big limitations of       old Netscape versions is that each profile could only have one email       account set up. To get more, you needed more then one profile. 7.2       allows for multiple email accounts but any other then the one that was       in the original NC profile will have to be set up manually.              While multiple mail accounts is one of the many great advances in 7.2,       there are features in 4.x that are not present in the new version.       That's because its not really a new version. It is a new program,       completely redesigned from the ground up. There is no code in common.       Reordering newsgroups within an account is one of those feature.       However, it can be done, and done quite easily, by editing the account's       .rc file in the profile. I'll post more complete directions if you are       interested.              I haven't used Norton AV in quite a while, but people do use it       successfully with NS. I do use AVG, and it scans both incoming and       outgoing mail with no problems.              Lee              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
