   No, top posting is allowed and even preferred in some news groups.   
   bottom posting is allowed and even preferred in other news groups   
   interspersed posting is allowed and even preferred in other news groups   
   some news groups have no stated preference   
      
      
   the rule is   
   When in Rome... do as the Romans do   
   i.e.   If a specific newsgroup seems to be bottomposted, then follow suite   
   if it seems to be top posting , then do likewise   
   if in doubt, ASK   
      
   Simply because the groups you participate in J are all bottom post   
   preferred does NOT mean its a no-no everywhere
