   Just checked:   
      
   Edit>Preferenences>Instant Messenger>Signing On To Instant Messenger   
      
   "Launch Automatically At System Start" is unchecked.   
      
   OH.... in the IM itself (under 'screen name' and 'password' entry boxes)   
   there are two boxes 1) remember password 2) signon on at launch (eureka!).   
      
   I thought the only selection box would be in 'Preferences'.
