I'm not clear on your problem. Is that when you open your newsgroup
account, you see that there are unread messages, nut when you open the
group, there are no such messages.

This is usually caused by messages being canceled by the posters. They
no longer appear in you headers list, but they linger in the rc file.

As you say, after a while it will correct itself, as messages are expire
from the server, but to correct it manually, close Netscape completely,
including Quick Launch if enabled, and navigate to your profile folder.

   C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\{profile name}\xxxxxxxx.slt

Note that this may be a hidden folder, so set Windows to display hidden
folders. Also, the x's are a random string.

In the profile, open the News subfolder and find the .rc file for the
problem account. OPen it in a text editor, Notepad will do. Each group
should be on its own line. You will see 1-256, 258, 260-1004, or some
such. Edit it to be 1- the last numbered entry. , in my example, 1-1004.

Save changes and close. Open Netscape. The unread messages for the
   group should be zero.
