   If you have lots of extension or themes, then the Update feature is   
   hard at work checking.  It's also checking for a new program update.   
   To turn it off: In the address bar type in   
      
   about:config   
      
   when it comes up, type update in the filter bar.  You will see a bunch   
   of them, change all the ones that says True and change them to False.   
     To do that, just double click on them.
