First, look at your settings under Edit,       Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings, select the account and under       Server Settings, on the right where it says User Name, some times you       may need the full email address such as avocat5@sbcglobal.net or other       times you can get away with avocat5.              Next, in the same area, uncheck "Use secure authentication."              Do either of these help?                     > What's confusing is that it was working fine, and I made no changes to       > the settings or email address. Unless you're       talking about access your account via the web access               and I can receive mail, and also read and send       > messages to newsgroups,on Netscape.              Sending and reading messages on newsgroups has nothing to do with       sending and receiving mail. They are two different things and use       different set ups               So, sbcglobal tells me that the       > problem is with Netscape and not with their system, and they won't help       > me.              Thats true. If you're not using IE or OE, then they won't provide       "techinical" support.              (Although they did offer to connect me to another department where       > they would help with the problem for $100.) Also, I       > understand that I will need a new "identity" (????),              Identity -- what are you talking about here? Do you mean a profile? A       profile is where all your bookmarks, settings, mail, passwords, etc       are stored. Netscape 7.1 has one, Net 8.1 has one, and so can       SeaMonkey. I used the word can there, because if you want to SM can       also use Netscape 7.1 profile. But, it will be worthless to get SM if       you can't solve this problem. If the problem is in Net profile, then       SM will also pick it up. Unless, you create a separate profile for       SM, and set up the accounts and everything on that, then we can help       you transfer other stuff over to the SM profile.              and this is       > somewhat confusing to me. - Specifically, if I changed to SeaMonkey or       > another program, which of the following can stay the same, and which       > will have to be changed?       >       > account name       > my name       > email address       > server type       > user name       > port       > password       > incoming (POP)       > Outgoing (SMTP)       > any further info necessary for newsgroups (don't remember the exact       > terminology???)       >       > Thanks for any help, suggestions, or advice.       >       > Jim Cate       >                     --       So, You Think You Know Everything?              Did you know that Babies are born without kneecaps.
