   Well, Peter Potamus, after shutting down the computer and restarting it   
   later in the day, the same problem cropped up.  I again deleted the files   
   you recommended, and things got back to normal.  However, after repeating   
   the shut-down and re-start, the problem returned a third time.  Shucks!  Any   
   other suggestions?  Thanks
