   The prefs.js file has been trashed when the system locked up. I have had this
   with NS where I loose all my settings and my Bookmarks file (that is actually
   really trashed). So I regularly keep a copy of the prefs.js and my BM file -
   elsewhere - in the level above the user (xxx) directory, i.e. in Profiles...
   C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\xxx
   If you can find out the format of the prefs.js
   you should be able to re-instate the mail dirs - I don't think they will have
   gone. Its just that NS will have lost the pointer to it..

   Here is an example of a part of my prefs.js in
   C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\xxx

   user_pref("mail.newsrc_root", "C:\\Documents and Settings\\xxx\\Application
   Data\\Mozilla\\Profiles\\xxx\\e59ckzay.slt\\News");
   user_pref("mail.quoted_size", 2);
   user_pref("mail.root.imap", "C:\\Documents and Settings\\xxx\\Application
   Data\\Mozilla\\Profiles\\xxx\\e59ckzay.slt\\ImapMail");
   user_pref("mail.root.nntp", "C:\\Documents and Settings\\xxx\\Application
   Data\\Mozilla\\Profiles\\xxx\\e59ckzay.slt\\News");
   user_pref("mail.root.none", "C:\\Documents and Settings\\xxx\\Application
   Data\\Mozilla\\Profiles\\xxx\\e59ckzay.slt\\Mail");
   user_pref("mail.root.pop3", "C:\\Documents and Settings\\xxx\\Application
   Data\\Mozilla\\Profiles\\xxx\\e59ckzay.slt\\Mail");
