   Yes, Firefox is a browser only, there is no mail or newsgroup component.   
     I agree that SeaMonkey may be the answer.

   It is a suite on the traditional netscape model.  It can even take ocer   
   the old NS 7.2 profile, though be careful not to go back and forth   
   between the two applications using the same profile.
