   One of the fat paperback movie guides (Scheuer or Maltin?)   
   called DESPERATE "an uncredited adaptation of TO HAVE AND   
   TO HAVE NOT".   
   For my part I appreciated a moment where the male lead   
   was dialing "555..." on a telephone AND WAS ACTUALLY   
   DIALING INFORMATION!!
