   This late fellow Alai--who was known to his public as that diminutive but in   
   fact had one of those interminable and unpronounceable "-stan" names   
   [Arstanbek Beishanalievich Abdyldayev] is said to have hanged himself at age   
   55 on Friday.   
      
   That sure seems an unexpected fate for a rich-guy businessman who ran as a   
   vanity candidate for his country's top political post.  He gained fame for   
   declaring his small, still-obscure country to be the center of the planet--and   
   I guess the universe as    
   well--and once even announced the end to winter in his mountainous homeland.   
      
   Alai also with a straight face--check out his Euroasianet photo--insisted to   
   followers that he is the true G-d, and would soon enough reign over the entire   
   cosmos, presumably as a benevolent deity.   
      
   Now, had I possessed such towering self-esteem, I would never have prematurely   
   ceded my universe-controlling powers; indeed, I would have opted to also award   
   myself immortality and then just enjoyed the omnipotent, eternal ride.
