   Seyyid Sir Jamshid bin Abdullah bin Khalifa Al bu Said,   
   last reigning Sultan of Zanzibar,born September 16th 1929,   
   died December 30th 2024.   
      
   Zanzibar was independent of Oman from 1856,having been an   
   Omani colony since the 1690s,as brothers from the reigning   
   dynasty divided the empire...it fell under a British protectorate   
   in 1890 as part of British efforts to end the slave trade.   
      
   In July 1963 Jamshid succeeded his father as Sultan;   
   in December 1963 the British gave up the protectorate;   
   in January 1964 the black African majority revolted and   
   overthrew the Sultanate,setting up a People's Republic   
   and sending Jamshid into exile;   
   in April 1964 they united with the Republic of Tanganyika   
   (formed December 1962) to form the United Republic of   
   Tanganyika and Zanzibar;   
   in October 1964 this was renamed the   
   United Republic of Tanzania.   
      
   Jamshid spent decades in the United Kingdom before his   
   cousin Haitham bin Tariq became Sultan of Oman and   
   allowed him to take up residence there.
