   On the death of Sheila Jackson Lee,I remarked that   
   she had managed to obtain the coveted 2314 Rayburn   
   office,previous seat of U.S. House deans George   
   Mahon(congressman 1935-79),Jamie Whitten(1941-95),   
   and Don Young(1973-2022),with senior-but-not-THAT-senior   
   occupants Lee Hamilton and David Obey between the latter   
   two.She and her daughter (who won the special and was   
   not in the general election in November) had very brief   
   tenures there,the daughter getting to have the office   
   despite being at the bottom of the seniority list though   
   she would have had to give it up for the new Congress   
   had she been elected,the mother being about 20th in   
   seniority.   
      
   I've now learned (despite mistaken indications that   
   Bill Foster had gotten it) that Marcy Kaptur is the   
   new occupant of 2314 Rayburn for the new Congress,and   
   since she was actually senior to SJLee but didn't go   
   for the office after Young's death placed it on the   
   availability list for the next Congress,that passing   
   on it once does not prevent a member from being eligible   
   for an office in the future.   
      
   Mahon,Whitten,and Obey all chaired the Appropriations   
   Committee,and Kaptur is one of its most senior members   
   (she was outvoted for the ranking Democrat slot by the   
   Pelosi-promoted Rosa DeLauro,who is a bit junior to her,   
   and became its most recent Democratic chair after Nita   
   Lowey retired,and Steny Hoyer (the only Democrat in the   
   House who has served longer than Kaptur,though Republicans   
   Hal Rogers and Chris Smith are senior to him overall)   
   stepping down from party leadership restored his long   
   abeyant Appropriations membership and made him senior   
   to her there(they both have rank slots on subcommittees).
