      From: davidc@wa-wd.com              For no particular reason, I'm compiling a list of major-league       baseball players who died in motor vehicle accidents in the Dominican       Republic. Here is what I have so far:              William Suero, d. 30 November 1995, age 29       Infielder for the Milwaukee Brewers (1992-93). Lost control of his car       in Santo Domingo and crashed into a utility pole.              Dan Monzon, d. 21 January 1996, age 49       Infielder for the Minnesota Twins (1972-73). Fatally injured in an       automobile accident in Santo Domingo.              Jose Oliva, d. 22 December 1997, age 26       Infielder for the Atlanta Braves (1994-95) and St. Louis Cardinals       (1995). His car overturned on a highway in the Dominican Republic. He       died from multiple injuries.              Rufino Linares, d. 16 May 1998, age 47       Outfielder for the Atlanta Braves (1981-82, 1984) and California       Angels (1985). Died in an automobile accident in Santo Domingo.              Andujar Cedeno, d. 28 October 2000, age 31       Shortstop for the Houston Astros (1990-94) and two other teams       (1995-96). He was driving home from a Dominican League game in       Santiago when his Mercedez-Benz collided with a truck.              Jose Uribe, d. 8 December 2006, age 47       Shortstop for the San Francisco Giants (1985-92), also played for the       St. Louis Cardinals (1984) and the Houston Astros (1993). Died in a       car crash near Juan Baron, Dominican Republic.              Oscar Taveras, d. 26 October 2014, age 22       Outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals (2014). Lost control of his       Chevrolet Camaro on a freeway in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic,       went off the road, and hit a tree. His girlfriend was also killed.              Andy Marte, d. 22 January 2017, age 33       Infielder for the Cleveland Indians (2006-10), also played for the       Atlanta Braves (2005) and Arizona Diamondbacks (2014). He was playing       in the Korean League when his car crashed into a house in the       northeast Dominican Republic.              Yordano Ventura, d. 22 January 2017, age 25       Pitcher for the Kansas City Royals (2013-16), member of their 2015       World Series champion team. Lost control of his Jeep Wrangler while       driving in Juan Adrian, Dominican Republic and was ejected from the       vehicle.              Reyes Moronta, d. 28 July 2024, age 31       Pitcher for the San Francisco Giants (2017-19, 2021) and three other       teams (2022-23). He was released from the majors in 2023. He played in       19 games in the Mexican League in 2024 before being released. He died       in an ATV accident in Villa Gonzalez, Dominican Republic.              Roberto Gomez, d. 8 December 2024, age 35       Pitcher for the San Francisco Giants (2024).
