From: le@lekno.ws              According to Sports Illustrated's website (si.com) citing a       social media post, former National League player Tommy Brown       died today (January 15th 2025) at the age of 97 years 40 days       (the third straight death at 97 off the "Oldest Living Major       Leaguers" list, though I wouldn't assume the 5 98-100-year-olds       are home free).              He was the last player active in the 1944,1945,1947,and 1948       major league seasons (his first two were as an underage fill-in       for players away fighting World War II,while in 1946 he had his       own turn to serve in the military),and he retains the record       for youngest ever to hit a home run.              I'm not sure who might still be alive with a final major       league appearance before his (in 1953).              -=-=-       The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again,       at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.              --- SoupGate-DOS v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
