|    Not dead: Wordpad    |

From: davidc@wa-wd.com              It was posted last year that Microsoft removed its Wordpad text editor       from Windows 11. I commented that I use Notepad many times every day,       almost constantly, but I don't use Wordpad. Well, after a Windows 10       laptop I own got baptized (i.e. immersed in water, NOT sprinkled with       it) and I had to replace it, I found that I missed Wordpad on that       computer. I learned that it's fairly simple to restore Wordpad simply       by copying the binaries from an earlier version. If one does not have       the binaries anymore, they aren't hard to find online.              It does not surprise me that this works, as I use Microsoft Office       Picture Manager, which is from the Windows XP era, on Windows 7 and 10       computers to this day, and I used to use builds of Telnet from, I       think, the Windows 2000 era, on much later systems. The only thing       that surprises me is that I missed Wordpad badly enough to do this.              David Carson              --- SoupGate-DOS v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
