   The Laotian Times and others report the death of   
   Khamtai Siphandone,born February 8th 1924,on   
   April 2nd 2025.   
      
   He was the oldest prominent person to share my   
   birthday,and the last living important leader   
   from the Indo-Chinese wars (not sure if the   
   hostilities in Laos count as part of the "Vietnam   
   War" per se)... he was the head of the Pathet   
   Lao military from 1962 onwards,becoming Deputy   
   Prime Minister and Defense Minister on the   
   Communist takeover in 1975,advancing to Prime   
   Minister in 1991,head of the Lao People's   
   Revolutionary Party in 1992,and President in   
   1998 before retiring in 2006.   
      
   His son is the current prime minister there.
