From: joe@blow.com              Yes, the major problem with the Anglo-Saxon peoples is that they don't walk       their talk. If we had actually practised the Christianity we preached to the       Indians, the "conquest" of the Indians would never have taken place. But       lying, cheating, stealing and murdering seemed preferable to our ancestors,       for the most part, while doing to others as you want them to do to you was       obviously deemed too character-intensive.              Not that everyone behaved that way, but too many did for the entire episode       to turn out any differently than it did.              I'm a Canadian, by the way, and my family came to western Canada in 1875.       Over the last 20 years or so I've carried out some very intensive research       on my country's absorption of the West and while it was not as brutal as in       the US, there is a LOT of shame to be shared.       --       Best regards,       Todd Sauve              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
