   The Canadian federal government tried at one point to stop the Sun Dance   
   practised by the Blackfoot in southern Alberta during the 1890s.   
      
   When they instructed the NWMP at Fort Macleod to prevent the Sun Dance, (by   
   keeping the tribe from getting buffalo tongues for the ceremony, if my 51   
   year old mind recalls correctly), they refused to do it. Told the feds it   
   was illegal to prevent people from practising their religion in a free   
   country and that put an end to that!   
      
   Gotta love some of those old Mounties ;)
