From: bronco3006@webtv.net              And a sunny Sunday to you both.       Todd --> The Canadian Government by whatever means they used did not       have the fights and uprisings that we had here.       So there was no major headlines for the papers of that day.       Here as Doodle stated & as I have said we broke all the treaties or       failed to enforce them. The people who led the       treaty party's probably knew in advance that we would not keep them or       at least suspected the congress would never ratify them.       Doodle also talked about some of the different reservations and how they       were set up. He said Bosque Redondo, but there are other's where tribes       that raided each other were incorporated into or next to each other.       Pine Ridge in South Dakota       is next to & or surrounded by Crow land.       Doodle pointed out the Long Walk that took the southeastern tribes into       the Indian territory. That trip was not as the crow would fly, it seemed       to wander around quit a bit.              There are several great books that I have read and enjoyed, however the       one that is very true in modern time is titled       "On The REZ" by Ian Frazier. Due to it I have traveled 3 times to Pine       Ridge. That is a place that will give you a good insight as to the       modern indian situation. BTW       Monday the PBS show will deal with Wounded Knee. I have been there as a       guest of one of the tribal police that I have come to know.       Another is by Edward Lazarus titled       "Black Hills, White Justice".              Todd, as for myself I am 69 and in central Indiana. I have spent 10       years in the summer wandering the western states,       seeing some of the places the 3 of us are talking about.       CaCa how about a little insight on you?       Since we all seem to enjoy talking discussing & reading things about the       Native Americans.       Also I can be reached at my e-mail address, webtv is like the last       prehistoric       monster. It still runs but I don't know why.        You all be safe --> "Old" Bill              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
