   Cavalry soldiers were small. My dad was 5'6" & 140 pounds. Their gear weighed   
   50 to 60 pounds. That's a lot for a horse to carry all day. History books fail   
   to mention that at the end of the day the soldiers had to care for their horse   
   first. That meant    
   cleaning the "bean" out too. There was not a lot of glamour in it according to   
   my dad.
