From: clipclop@dontemailme.com              In article <20031125183235.12213.00000712@mb-m26.aol.com>, ooreroom@aol.com       says...              >But first, Robins will have to intervene in a Silver City case to exhume the       >body of Billy the Kid's mother, Catherine Antrim.              The preposterous notion that the grave of       Billy the Kid can be accurately identified       is the major flaw in the argument for DNA       evidence. Chances of making a DNA match       between "anonymous" bones and "known" bones       is so miniscule as to be virtually impossible.       And it would be a serious travesty to dig up       the grave(s) of the wrong persons - persons       who had no connection to the case.              Even Pat Garrett, in later years,       failed to recognize the actual grave of the       Kid, even though he knew where in the cemetery       the grave originally was. The graves of the Kid and his       Lincoln County cohorts were unmarked at the time.       In subsequent years that area       of the cemetery flooded, graves were washed       out, and the bones re-collected were re-buried       elsewhere with no thought of identifying whose       bones were whose.              I question if anyone can accurately determine       the grave of Billie's mother, for that matter.              In any event, Gov. Richardson somehow believes       this farce is good publicity for NM. I personally       think it only makes a laughing stock of all       involved. In the end, nothing will be proved because       there will have been no DNA match, and the legend       will live on - and on...              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
