But if ever       going, I'd       strongly suggest you make it during one of the summer months when the annual       pageant is being produced. It's called the "Fandangle" and it is only shown       to audiences about 10 nights per year. I believe those are weekends in       either June or July. That is an outdoor pageant, the "stage" sees wagons,       longhorns being herded, lots of horses and cowboys (and even some fake       Indians) and various buildings which provide the background for the story.       It is the story of Fort Griffin (or Albany, depending on your choice) Texas.       It is some pretty good history, revised slightly each year. The land for       the pageant was given to the town by Watt Matthews, nephew of that outlaw       that got us on this thread, John Larn! Watt died a few years back, just       slightly younger than 100 years of age. At the time, his sister was older,       living in Fort Worth area. She must be gone by now, she'd be WELL over       105... Possible, but I can't imagine that. Check out the Albany Fandangle       on the web, not sure of the URL right now but should be hard to find. Watt       was one of the LAST of a breed, and that's more than a slogan. I met him       and spent a couple of days with him on his ranch. Fine gentleman, fabulous       story. If I've stirred up any serious interest, I've got a book or two to       suggest.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
