Who cares! I found it interesting, even though
I haven't a clue about the locale other than what
I've seen in years past as I drove hastily through
that rather uninteresting terrain. Land that only
a rancher could love. But then I seem to recall
that there was a significant amount of farming
in that area too - with pecan and other types of
   cultivated orchards.

An aside. Long before anyone heard of interstate
highways or freeways, I used to travel between
El Paso and Dallas via old US-180. It was like
driving across the USA - or seemed that long. The
other route was US-80, which was later overlaid by
   IH-10 and IH-20. But US-180 retains much
of its "charm" as a two-lane and seemingly
endless ribbon of asphalt across much of Texas.
I don't think it passes through a single town
   of any real significance!

You may have seen the posts recently on the ongoing
Billy the Kid saga. Our illustrious governor,
(another "Bill" btw) Richardson is making
the resurrection of The Kid one of his priorities!
And it's Sumner - not Sumpter - the fort, that is.

   >(Ft Sumter (wasn't he buried there?))

Thanks for all the references to the Watt family.
I'll now see if I can get my hands on any of that
reading material. I'm currently enjoying Gabriel
Garcia-Marquez's first intallment on his biographical
trilogy! One can see clearly where his storied
novels got their inspiration - his bio reads like
   his fiction!
