McMurtry is still writing westerns of course.
He has just completed a trilogy that is rather
funky, but fun reading. Nothing like Lonsesome Dove
though. Have you read any of Elmer Kelton?
And Tony Hillerman has been gaining readers
around the world with his 'mystery' novels set
in Indian country. Lately I notice a large
increase in the number of women writing westerns,
usually love stories in violent western settings.
