Good memory,Jake. Both Louis L'Amour and Zane Grey are great for young
...dare I say boys ... kiddos. I got my love of reading from poring over
Grey's books. Even got to his Arizona cabin once, a Loooong time ago.
Traveled to many of the places that Louis L'Amour wrote about in the
Southwest, though I didn't care to follow his Yondering Man trails! :-)

But don't forget an old friend of ours, Fred Gipson. He wrote Old Yeller,
and Hound Dog Man, along with others. His sister Stella Gipson Polk wrote
Glory Girl, among several others which are not books written for children.
Both Fred and Stella were born in Mason County (home of the famous Mason
County Wars) and lived there until their deaths. Both knew the county well.

Stella refused to talk about the Mason County Wars, even in the mid 1990s,
because "there are still some folks around who are sensitive to those
times..." she'd say. She was a darling lady in her 90s!

   OH!
Would True Grit be too "adult" for the 10 year old crowd?

I don't remember the language, but is that a factor these days?
