Yep, that's the correct book by Joe S. Graham. Try to find articles Joe has
written on the topic, also. He literally devoured the topic of the Rancho
   in Texas while he lived.
His writings are found in the publications of the Texas Folklore Society
(Joe was a long-time member of that) and the Texas State Historical
Association, and both have indices of their back issues and topics covered.
Another library trip, if this is worth your time. ALso suggest you try a
search in the UT Austin library catalog online. Their catalog includes all
the titles and material in what we call the Barker Center for American
History (primarily the Texan part of "American History.")

The B'lands. Bkstr? I hope you told him I sent you. He gives me a big
discount when I send him business. :-) He is a good friend, sells me lots
of books on one specific topic. Guess which one! (just kidding about the
discount, tho.) If George doesn't carry it, he can get it and he is
completely honest, from a lot of personal experience with him.

I don't think you said anything dangerous, above. Completely safe. The
territory changed hands to Mexico, but that happened in the years after the
period of history covered by Frank's writing. Heck, he was a "talking head"
on the recent PBS special on the Alamo and Juan Seguin, Texas Hero! I
believe it was called "Remember The Alamo" even tho it dealt primarily with
   Seguin.

Hope you caught that, though it didn't touch on haciendas, as I recall. It
was one of the specials carried under the broad misleading title, something
about the "American Experience." If you're interested in that, look it up
under "Tovares" ... the name of the guy who put it together. The video was
pretty accurate, a tad of important info was left out here and there which
would have changed a few ideas, but nothing significant. Hey! I'll see if
I can find a local review of it. If it is worth reading, I'll post it here
   on the ng.
