For example, how       widely one has traveled the western USA       and how interested one was in each of the       regions so traveled. If your interest is       "old west" trivia, memorabilia, and lore       then you'll have a more expansive view,       no doubt, than the person who has not       traveled as widely. OTOH, I know people       who have traveled widely throughout the west       and couldn't care less about the "old west"       culture or lore.              As for my own travels, I know that       I simply MUST return to the       red rock canyon country immortalized by       Tony Hillerman in his novels. To me its       one of the most magical places on earth,       and still relatively undeveloped when       compared to other former 'wilderness' regions.       A recently purchased new AWD vehicle will       get me going to the "four corners" area       this spring for sure, before that area       heats up too much.              And of course, living for a long time in       a given spot is going to acquaint one with       that region in favor of others. As I said       earlier, I was born in the SW USA (El Paso)       and now live not far from El Paso in central       New Mexico. So while Chris is interested in       upper plains and NW indian cultures, my       knowledge is focused more on Apache, Commanche,       Navajo, Ute etc etc. But having lived for       3 years in the NW (In northern Idaho) I also       had a great interest in indian cultures in       that locale while living there.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
