It was Pullman building his railcars in Chicago furnishing the railroads
   with
   > passengers. I'm sure there are other things in Chicago which had an
   effect on the west.

I'll say one thing for sure, Steve, Cori may be legit (and she or he does
not sound much like a troll) and she or he's stimulated more conversation,
more traffic, and more thinking on this newsgroup than I've seen for awhile.
So long as we stay at least within the playground of the Old West, this
   can't be all bad, eh?

Speaking of thinking, I just got into a book by Edwin Shrake, titled "The
   Borderland."

Has anyone commented about this writer recently? I have the feeling I've
seen his name fly across my screen, but can't recall where or when. Has a
lot of historically accurate places and events, and well described, too.
But there, in addition to a lot of historical characters and places, there
are the false names and places tossed in.

I am not certain yet, that these may not have been accurate in 1840, but
unfamiliar to me. I suspect his gimmick is to use fake names and places
when the individuals depicted are "bad guys"... I guess I'll find out
before the end of the book. Except for a good bit too much of graphic sex
and violence, it seems well researched and written.
I'm not prudish, either! Just that this guy has crossed over the line,
several times, with that stuff. Of course, it appears to be the
'pseudonymed' characters who are doing that. Again, .... ? Quien sabe?
