I've read personal accounts written by people
in the 19th century who were speaking of the
reading matter they carried along on their
treks west. I can't name any of the literature
now, but what struck me about it was how they
must have read and re-read what was available
to them then. Speaking for myself, if I were
in some remote and isolated situation where I
had the time to read, it wouldn't take long
to finish whatever it was I had room to carry
with me. "Well-worn pages" was certainly apropo,
   I'm sure.
