   Cowboy boots, as we've come to know them with their high heels, we're only   
   "invented" in   
   the 1870s. A bootmaker in Kansas first shaped the heel and sold them to   
   cowboys spending   
   their trail money at the railhead towns.   
      
   Billy the Kid wore them too, having ordered a pair by mail.
