   Those like myself, who grew up with the Chihuahuan   
   desert for a playground - literally - have a very   
   different take on the desert environs than someone   
   who is a 'foreigner' to it. The current issue of   
   National Geographic - as an example - has an article   
   on the people who LIVE and eke out a living "where   
   rain never falls" - the Atacamba Desert of Chile.   
   That place makes the deserts of SW USA look like   
   a lush savanah.
