Written by Joel Murcott, who has quite a number of radio and TV writing
   credits.

And it morphed into a fairly popular television series of the same name,
both of which Stacy Keach, Sr. owned, produced and directed. The
televison version (different writers) was one of the prototypes of the
   enduring steely-eyed-veteran-passionate-young-rookie partners formula.
