The issue of wearing vests, to say nothing of three piece suits
with stiff collared shirts and neckties, isn't confined to
the cowboy culture. I have many pictures of my grandparents
in their "liesure" hours and never once is there a photo of
my paternal granddad without his 3-piece suit on, even in
the heat of El Paso's summer! I have photos of him on camping,
hunting and fishing trips where he remains similarly attired
as he goes about his activities. Perhaps he 'put on the
dog' each time the camera aimed his way, but from what I
know of people and the times, I believe this was more the
norm for "middle class" folks than not. And don't forget the
women, who in those days would not be caught out in less
than ankle-length skirts under layers of other clothing.
