From: nospam@abc.net              Cal, what does his education have to do with whether or not he's a good       historian? They       don't teach it at school you know. In any event he holds a degree in the field       but I can't       remember the university.              Steve, the makers of the documentary are the people who choose the       interviewees. Utley is       offered good money to tell them what he knows about Billy the Kidd.              I've dealt with Bob Utley on a personal basis and I can tell you categorically       he will NOT       offer advise on a subject unless he feels he can do it justice. I tried to       budge him loose       from his Texas Rangers book sever al years back to scour my manuscript. He       read the first       three chapters, told me what he thought and then said he couldn't offer much       insight       beyond that.              He is generally the best at the Indian wars and the frontier army. Jerome       Green is also       very thorough. I'm looking forward to his work on the Nez Percé when I can       find it ;)       --       Todd              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
