From: clematis@dontemailme.com              I am currently browsing the book THE AMERICAN WEST       which I obtained on inter-library loan from the       NM state library in Santa Fe.              I am surprised that it is mostly illustrations and       not photographs, which I for some reason assumed       it would contain. But then I know that photo       reproductions in print media weren't around before       the early 20th century to any great extent. That       having been said, the book is indeed an excellent       resource for anyone wanting to learn about the old       west for the first time, although the illustrations       often border on the folkloric. Thanks again for       the recommendation.              I just finished reading a 2003 publication by       western author Jane Candia Coleman, titled "Matchless,"       based on the personal memoirs of the wife of Silver       King Harold Tabor. Coleman can really paint a picture       with words, for anyone interested in "historical       fiction" on the old west.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
