From: rarity@dontemailme.com              I thought this "letter to the editor" of my local paper might amuse:              To the editor:       "I would like to take issue with Drew Gomber’s 'Past Tense'       column dated March 18, 2005. In his usually accurate column,       Mr. Gomber makes the erroneous assertion that Cole Younger       was the leader of the James Gang. I’m surprised to see that       a historian of Mr. Gomber’s reputation would make such a basic       and obvious mistake.       I would think that even schoolboys know the leader of the       James Gang was Jesse James!       I’m hoping that there is some explanation other than ignorance       for this error, as I have always enjoyed Mr. Gomber’s stories in the past."              NOTE: Drew Gomber is the official historian for the Lincoln, NM       museum run by the state of New Mexico. He writes a weekly "old       west" column that is published in the Ruidoso News each Friday.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
