   I wouldn't classify it as must-see TV, but it's OK so far. I wouldn't
necessarily set up the VCR to tape an episode I knew I was going to
miss, but it's not so bad as to make you immediately want to find
something else, either. I appreciate certain elements of it, like the
fact that Berenger actually aims his Colt when he fires instead of
shooting from the hip, and so far the forensic science they have shown
does not appear to be too hard ahead of its time. They take the time
to point out in the pilot that fingerprints were not yet considered
foolproof at the time, and in the 2nd episode they made the same
disclaimer about ballistics evidence. They also cite reference
materials when possible to show the audience that what they are
talking about is real, like last night when the Pinkerton guy showed
the sheriff a book on ballistics and mentioned who wrote in and when
as a way of showing they weren't getting outside their timeframe. The
pilot also depicted such real life frontier elements as inadequate
heating, as you could see the actors' breath fog even when they were
indoors. Of course it is a TV show and carries the biases of the
entertainment industry, which is largely very liberal, so last night's
episode was basically an anti-capital punishment screed. Too much of
that and I might be compelled to seek my entertainment elsewhere.
