   It's called being in denial.  The glorious US Cavalry could never do   
   such an atrocity.  All those bad things you hear about Union Army   
   General Philip Sheridan ("the only good Indian I ever saw was dead")   
   are nothing more than negatory conceits from General Sheridan's   
   detractors of the time. Same with Colonel Chivington. Etc,, etc.
