   It is mistaken.  Here's a detailed article that likewise uses the term   
   "Stone Age" to describe existing traditional cultures.  Growing   
   disparities between those cultures and expanding Anglo-European   
   societies would ultimately doom the traditional cultures at one point   
   in history or another.  One culture set managed to hang on to ancient   
   traditions over millennia, and another thrives, if not obsesses, on   
   change, growth, and expansion.  The writing was on the wall, or, for   
   prescient Indians, on the rock.
